Video Probes

There are basically two distinct types of scope.

Those incorporating traditional fibreoptics and those with the liquid light guide providing illumination.

The traditional fibres based units tend to be narrower diameter instruments, 6 & 8 mm in dia. Currently the 6mm dia. type has a broader range of lengths and features, such as choice of interchangeable objective. Currently, 16 m is the longest length produced.

Liquid illumination, increases the diameter of the scopes considerably, 15 to 25 mm. The advantage is that much larger subjects can be viewed and lengths of up to 50 m are possible.

The control units themselves for these units are actually where the sophistication becomes apparent. Simple systems have basic controls for illumination and for the monitor. Higher end units incorporate features such as character generation, electronic zoom, picture comparison, video image storage, image transmission capability. The very latest versions can have sophisticated measurement technology incorporated in the core unit.
